Fishing Report 02/26/2015

I Wanted to say THANK YOU to all that came out to the Fishermen Post School this past Saturday. We enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Feel free to stop by the shop if you have any more questions about any of the topics. We will be glad to help you learn more about FISHING!!!
As you can see, I haven't been writing many reports over the last few weeks. We've been dealing with the cold… wind… and nasty weather. Last week, we had a major arctic blast from the north dropping the temperatures down in the teens at night and 30’s during the day. This week, has been somewhat warmer but we did see snow and ice on Tuesday.
On a good note, we do see a warming trend starting on Sunday going into next week with temperatures in the 50’s. So, we have our fingers crossed things are getting ready to change for the better. Daylight savings time is just a few weeks away. Usually when that happens and we get some longer days, the temperatures start to rise.
One thing we have been getting done is frigid cold weather is stocking the store full of new product from show orders, getting it ready for Spring. We still have a few orders left to come in over the next few weeks and we should be full ready to go when the FISH start to show up. Now is a good time to bring on by reels and rods that need to be fixed, along with getting fresh line on your reels so you will be ready.
As far as fishing, things have been pretty slow around the shop. I've been talking to a few that's been out braving the cold whose seeing schools of Redfish in some of the marsh areas. Most of them haven't been willing to bite but a few were caught using Berkley Gulp Baits on the warmer days.
I've been hearing of some Rockfish being caught up on the Trent River off the Neuse River on 18MR Mirrolures in the “Hot Olive” color and Road Runners. There's some Trout being caught in the creeks off the Neuse in the deeper water but it's been slow. The ones that are being caught, anglers are fishing very very slow to get any bites in the cold water.
I've received a lot of calls whether there's been any fish kills over the last few weeks. I've heard there's been a few in the creeks, but I haven't seen any reports of a major fish kill. With the looks of the weather warming up, hopefully; we'll be in the clear for the rest of the winter.
The Offshore bottom fishing should still be good but unfortunately, we just can't get any weather for boats to get out to the fishing grounds. If you catch a good weather day and get out in the 30-40 mile range off the ledges there's plenty of B-Liners, Trigger Fish and Sea Bass to bring home. Fishing Squid on the bottom will get the job done. You probably can find some Sea Bass in and around the North West Places, Atlas Tanker and AR330 also.
So, really there's not much going on but as soon as we get a break from old man winter, I really feel like things will turn on pretty quick. All we need is some longer days and about 3 weeks of temperatures in the 60’s and things will start happening. Then, we all can get rid of “Cabin Fever”.
