What a great week of weather we have had… with light winds and sunny skies all week. It looks like tomorrow we have some storms coming through but forecasted to be gone very quick giving up a beautiful weekend for us.

Inshore:

Well, we've been waiting and the COBIA are here in full force. All this week we've been weighing fish with more and more showing up each day.  We've weighed fish from both the east and west in the 30lb range up to 80lbs so far. Anglers are catching fish sight fishing and soaking bait on the bottom.  For the sight-fishing guys the Blue Water Candy, Buccaneer and Spro Bucktails with Grub Tails are working good. Savage – Live Eels have caught some big fish this week along with Berkley Gulp Eels.

Anglers have been seeing some fish shying off artificial and not biting but we have the solution for that “LIVE EELS”.  One customer saw 15 fish the other day that wouldn't hit anything but a boat pulled up with LIVE EELS and it was on. It’s just something about a Live Eel a Cobia won't turn down.  So, we do have them In-Stock now and will have them until the Cobia move on.

Also, anglers soaking dead Menhaden is seeing good action with most fishing at the Cape in the hook area. We have stocked up this week on “Fresh Shad” so we should be good on the big bags plus we have the 3pks also. We also have Dead Blue Crabs and plenty of Chum In-stock for the bait soakers. So it's time… it's getting very good and could be as good as it was 2 years ago.  What I have been hearing from our friends down in teh Charleston area they are just starting to see good numbers of fish. Most of what we are seeing are fish pushing in from Offshore of us. So we should see good numbers of fish over the next month as once the fish here now move up the fish below us will be moving through our area.

Spanish Mackerel fishing has picked up this week with some bigger fish moving in. We weighed one that was 4 lbs the other day, which is a great sign of what is showing up. The Oceanana Pier area has been good the last two afternoons with lots of fish being caught. Trolling Clarkspoons on planers and trolling weights seems to be working the best so far. Also, there's plenty of Bluefish in the mix along with the Spanish.

There's still been great Bonito action this past week and last weekend at the artificial reefs. This year is one of the best years we have seen in a long time. Casting lures are working well first thing in the mornings then as the sun rises anglers are having great luck on Yo-Zuri DD. I got my hands on some of the older ones that they quit making a few years back in some great colors that are working good. There's still some Albacore schools working the same areas.

This week, we saw our first good signs of Flounder coming from some of the artificial reefs like 315, 320 and 330 with anglers catching their limit.  Still the Spro 2oz Bucktails tipped with Berkley Gulp 4” Shrimp is the best bait you can use. This combo has caught more Flounder in the Ocean over the last five years than anything on the market. Also, it’s a good ideal to take along some Live Mud Minnows when hitting the reefs for Flounder action. I haven't seen many from the inside yet but we're seeing a few being caught.

There's still a few Sea Mullets hanging around but the majority have moved on since the water has warmed up. It was fun while it lasted as we had a great spring run and hopefully they'll come back through this fall for more action. I don’t think they're all gone because some will stay here all summer. You won't find huge numbers but you can catch enough to eat if you fish for them. Spec-Rigs tipped with bait shrimp will be the best for action.  Gray Trout is plentiful in the area to catch and good numbers with nice sized fish. It seems not many anglers fish for them much now like they used to when the limits were higher.

Piers / Surf:

The Oceanana has seen some great action for Spanish over the last few afternoons with good numbers being caught. Got-cha Plugs and Pole Kat Lures are working the best. The pluggers also are catching Bluefish. The action on the pier should get better and better every day. Also, there's been a few Red Drum caught off the pier in the 20 to 25 inch range this week plus a few Black Drum. Sea Mullets have slowed down but still anglers are picking up a few along the beaches. The Pompano have shown up and we've weighed some nice ones over the past week. One went over 2lbs, which is a great size for this area. Fresh Shrimp, Bloodworms, Mullet, Finger Mullet, Sand Fleas are good choices of bait to use.

Also, if you're fishing the piers keep your eyes open for Cobia. They're near and swimming along the beaches so it’s very possible to catch one. Most of the ones caught will be caught insight of the Oceanan Pier, so just keep that in mind if you're heading to the pier.

Offshore:

Last weekend and this week so far has been very good. We're weighing lots of Dolphin and good numbers of Gaffers as we weighed one in the other day that topped the scales at 53lbs. Most everybody that is making it out is bringing back fish. The next few weeks should be some of the best Dolphin action we'll see all year long so don’t miss out when the weather is right to go.

Also, anglers are still catching some Wahoo, just the other day we weighed one over 50 lbs. Not the numbers like it was a few weeks ago but you're  still going to pick up a few in the mix. Also, Black Fin Tuna is being caught along with the Hoo’s and Dolphin. Most of the action has been out to the Big Rock back down to the Rise. Most anglers are pulling Small and Medium Ballyhoo on Sea Witches.

There has been some Blue Marlin action too with boats hooking up and catching. So, that's a good sign of Blues so far, we might see a great Big Rock Tournament in a few weeks.

Sea Bass, Groupers, Triggers, Grunts and Snappers all are coming off the bottom. Most of the best action for the bigger fish is in that 35 mile range. But guys fishing the North West Places and Atlas Tanker area are catching good numbers of nice keeper fish.  The Amber Jacks are starting to get thick around the same area, which are fun when you can catch them on top busting Chuggers.

So, it looks like the next two days are going to be rough in the Blue Water but maybe Saturday and Sunday will flatten out some and the first of the week looks good for boats to venture out.
